the lucky streak is over

Apparently there is at least one police officer that did not get the memo about me not ever getting a ticket.

I met him last night.

And he gave me a ticket. For "running a red light."

I drive like a grandma. I always wear my seatbelt, don't speed, don't talk on my cell phone in school zones and I certainly don't run red lights.

Yellow lights, yes. Which is what I did. The light happened to turn red while I was in the intersection. It isn't like I accelerated to get through the light, I just didn't think slamming on my brakes and getting rear-ended was the best decision. Especially with a police car next to me. I explained this to him, saying, "You know you make people nervous when you are right next to them. I started to brake but that seemed more dangerous then just driving." He said, "You seem like a really nice person but we wouldn't want you to get hurt." There were no other cars on the road except for the one behind me, so I'm not sure who was going to hurt me, but whatever.

I almost asked him if I could take a picture of him since he was the first policeman to ever give me a ticket, but I got scared and didn't. He didn't seem like the type who would appreciate it. I guess it had to happen sometime.

Noooooooooooo! NOT THE LUCKY STREAK!
One time, I was in the exact same situation as you. Cop on my left, car behind me, light yellow. I had the choice of going through or slamming on the break. Unlike you, I chose the brake because the cop made me nervous. While I did not get a ticket, I did get screamed at as well as the middle finger from the middle aged man in the car behind me that was inches away from slamming into my car's rear end. That was friggen' scary. Not the man, but the fact that he almost crashed into my car.

If he was next to you doesn't that mean he ran the light also?

If it were me, I'd probably be on the edge of tears. I hate getting tickets! Didn't realize you'd never gotten a ticket before. I guess it had to happen sometime...
