funk

I'm pretty sure it is not a good thing that I require a specific list of topics in order to produce a blog post. What's up with that? I guess there seems to be a funk epidemic going on. Family, friends, coworkers, myself... Nobody is immune. Bad or unpleasant or frustrating or sad or difficult things are a part of life, we all know that. I know life is good and usually preach unicorns and sunshine, but sometimes being a grownup is hard.

(Imagine a picture here. I would insert one if the iPad didn't make it s dang difficult.)

It has been natural to cling to two powerful things I learned as a child....

1. The prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. Even if you aren't Catholic, I'm pretty sure this prayer will make you feel safer and more at ease in any situation when there are bad vibes running amuck. I like to picture all the evil spirits who roam through the world seeking the ruin of souls bouncing up against some invisible force field, all frustrated that they couldn't get to the person they wanted. Suckers.

2. PALE GAS. This is the acronym my dad used to use when he taught about the seven deadly sins. Pride, Anger, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Avarice, Sloth. They are not just a movie plot, they will wreck you and everyone you love.  To be honest, I can't remember the seven virtues as easily. I bet everyone going through a funk can't either ....Which actually explains why there is an epidemic.  Guess I'd better get on that.

Next up... Unicorns and sunshine.

Cling, cling, cling to that St. Michael prayer. Here's another:

"In the name of Jesus, I bind up any spirit not of the Holy Spirit (or spirit of anxiety or spirit of anger or whatever), to go straight to the foot of the Cross to be judged by The Lord."

It may take a few tries but if it's not the world or the flesh trying to attack you, it's a demon and that will make them go away. Those forcefields are there! :)

And yuck for funks. :( They're awful! You're wonderful, though, and will be in my prayers!

I have been in a funk, too, lately! Life is tough and I just hesitate to share the bad...but then, again, I think sharing the bad brings us all a little closer, right? Keepin' it real...On the good side - SEE YOU SOON!!!!

Yes, we're all funkalicious! Maybe I'll make a Blogtastic Thankful November list or something, so we have something to blog about. :)

I love that prayer! We say it with Annie every night, and it's kicked out her bad dreams. No lie. I'm going to print out Ursa Majors' prayer, too. I like the idea of the bad guys being judged. :)

Love you!

P.S.

There is no good acronym for the virtues. I've tried. You could say "Prudes Just Fort Temps, named Faith, Hope, and Charity." Right? Yeah, no, it's no PALE GAS... not by a longshot. :) Hahah!

Prudence. Discern what's good, and the right way to get it.

Justice. Give God and neighbor their due.

Fortitude. Firmness in difficulties, and constancy in the pursuit of the good.

Temperance. Moderates attraction of the pleasures, provides balance.

FaithBelieve in God and all He has revealed.

Hope. Desire, with steadfast trust await eternal life and the graces to merit it.

Charity. Love God above everything, and our neighbor as ourself.

Charity, the form of all the virtues, "binds everything together in perfect harmony." :)
