Ooh rah

We have great neighbors. On one side, they are named Lyle and Susan. Lyle prefers for me to call him “Lyle,” but he is a retired Colonel in the United States Marine Corps, so I usually call him “Colonel.” (That is a whole other story. I mean….really, English language? How is c-o-l-o-n-e-l pronounced “kernel?”) Colonel loves his Marine Corps. And it isn’t like just ANYONE can be a Colonel, so that is pretty admirable. He still pretty much acts like an Officer – especially with those high school boys that he hires to do his yard….. but anyway….

They are good people. In fact, we were at another neighbor’s house this weekend and I said,
“Colonel, I’m sure glad I know you. Because you give the Marines a good name. My ex-boyfriend before Larry was a Marine and he was pretty much worthless.”

Colonel: “Is he on active duty?”

Me: “No.”

Colonel: “Well, that’s too bad. If he was, you could’ve just given me his name and I’d have him taken care of.”

Ha!

He also could have totally called the military police and said the ex was speeding or parked illegally or whatever and the cops would have taken his word for it and handed the boy a ticket. That's what kind of power Colonels have. They rock. We're crossing our fingers...

Alan will totally be a Colonel. And then I will stop calling him "Alan" and only call him "Colonel" and he will get annoyed and be all.... "I have a name."
